PRESS RELEASE
THE LANCE MARTIN BAND.  www.Myspace.com  www.LanceAmartincom

Lance Martin is a former IRS employee of 10 years. Currently he teaches part-time at Wellesley College.  He teaches in the Jazz Department/ flute improvisation.

THE LANCE MARTIN BAND:

This is a flute led jazz/funk band out of Boston metro. The LMB has been together in Boston since 1982. Always with an awesome personnel, this band has performed with the intent to whip an audience into a frenzy.

The combination of jazz, funk & gospel is called Physical Jazz, which is the title of lance's new CD. The music and the flute performances will hopefully dispel any preconceived notion on what a jazz flute should sound like.

The repertoire is not heavy jazz, but consists of standards, and some recognizable R&B or pop tunes played in the style of Physical Jazz; visually aggressive and musically entertaining.

Lance Martin has been performing with his band for 27 years. , The band will be together with original bassist, Webster Roach, Jonathan Singleton, & Brian Carter.    "We're trying to reach a lot of people "says Lance "I like the mix and the spontaneity of our styles.  Our energetic Physical Jazz style often complements whoever is sitting in with the band.

Lance Martin's following usually come out because they don't know what will happen next: The band may play something so awesome that you'd have to be there to experience it.  Or you just may find Lance outside the building still playing with the band.   Or you may just hear an incredible special guest who just happens to come in.

In his 40th year of playing flute, Mr. Martin is still trying to expose his style of music to the masses.   "The problem with flute is that people will hear that you're playing flute, and ask "Do you double on Sax?" or "Do you also play trumpet?"  "Allot of times I won't get a sub call unless the caller has tried all the other sax players in the city and they're busy".  "That's alright," says Lance" because that is one way for other people to hear what a flute can do."  "People think the flute is a dainty little instrument until I ram it down their throats" He jokes "but really, the people of Boston have been very supportive along with a few agents, then it comes down to you either like flute, or you don't.  I respect the ones who at least come to one of our shows and say "I don't like flute" (I've only had that criticism once in my 42 years).

Friday, March 26th The Lance Martin band plans to have their long awaited CD RELEASE CONCERT at Bunker Hill Community College.  "This is most important that we put on this concert for the people who have supported me up to this point of my life" says Lance.   This event will also be simulcast all over the world via the Jazz Network Worldwide.com  So if you're not able to go to Bunker Hill Community College, you can watch it anywhere in the world.
